Mr. Chen has a BA in Traditional Chinese Painting and a MA in Traditional Chinese Calligraphy and Seal Carving from the Chinese National Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou, China. (The school was formerly known as the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts). His specialty in Chinese painting was the flower and bird genre. For his Master's degree, he specialized in the ancient seal script. Prior to moving to the USA in 1992, he was an Instructor of Chinese Calligraphy at the Academy. He taught Chinese Brush Painting classes at Saddleback Community College and Cerritos Community College in Southern California from 1993 to 2000. In 1995, he held his first solo exhibition in the USA at the Nancy Rupp Studio Gallery in Ojai, California. Since then he has had several more solo exhibitions in the Southern California area.
